The Makeup Tools | How I Deep Clean My Brushes

I really hate cleaning my makeup brushes and I'm sure there are plenty of you who feel the same! However, we must carry out this boring task, unless you want bacteria all over your face? When you think about it, not cleaning your brushes for months or years, is actually really gross! There are many reasons as to why we need to wash our brushes! As we apply foundation to our face, we pick up bacteria from the skin and then it's left in the brush from that use. This will happen continuously every time you use it, apart from, the backteria that was festering in the brush is now on your skin! This is a tiring circle which will only cause you to create blemishes, spots and pore blockages. This applies to face brushes, but you do need too deep clean your eye brushes too, this should be done every few weeks, just to ensure that no bacteria is lurking. Now, I don't have a lot of brushes, so it's important for me to clean my brushes. Obviously, if you have sensitive/ prone to blemish skin, then definitely wash your brushes more than the average person - this could improve your skin!

  1. Collect all your brushes and lay them out, ready to be cleaned
  2. Place the brush under some water - not piping hot or cold
  3. Pump some cleaning product on to your brush (I usually use conditioner, but I've been using my handwash at the minute as it's so soft and smells gorgeous. With it being a handwash, I'm hoping it'll get rid of the bacteria sufficiently and quickly)
  4. Swirl your brush in the palm of your hand, rinse under some water and then repeat the swirling
  5. Squeeze out excess product from the brush and just watch all the makeup fall in to the plug!
  6. You can repeat all those steps if you have pesky brushes (dense or dirty)
  7. Leave out on a towel to dry

I've been writing a long list of some brushes that I really want to buy, what with my birthday coming up, I hope I receive some. Although, I might get some at the airport when I go on holiday - do you think they'll cost less?

Hope you found this blog post helpful! How many of you are now going to run and wash your brushes?

  1. Great tutorial! I see that you have a lot of Real Technique brushes and I just want to say that I love them too. :D
