The Tag | Confessions of a Beauty Blogger

I've seen this tag floating around on various blogs and thought it would be fun to do myself, I wouldn't really consider myself as a beauty blogger, but I do blog about beauty related things! If you guys end up doing this on your blog or want to comment on this doing it, then let me know as I love reading these, because I am a nosey bear!

When did you start your blog?
I started 'beautyflutters' in october 2012 with a wish list! I remember being inspired by other successful beauty bloggers and wanted to create my own little place for myself on the internet. I wanted to write my views on some things and wondered if anybody would feel the same.

Have you had any past online presence before (other blog, YouTube)?
I had (still) a tumblr and a twitter, of course when I was younger I went through the whole MySpace and Bebo. Then when I got older, I really liked Dailybooth and made most of the best friends I have now on there, which then encouraged me to get vYou. However, all of those shut down, apart from tumblr and in a way I'm happy that some of them did.

Why did you start a blog?
I started a blog because I was excited about having my own little space on the internet where I could write and it would be more than Dailybooth and the likes of Tumblr, as much as I did love them. What I liked about the idea of having a blog was the freedom to write about anything I wanted. As I joined it only inspired me more as I came across other beauty bloggers. I then discovered my writing style, yet I'm still learning new things about my blog all the time. Starting my blog was what inspired me to start my youtube channel, along with many other nudges along the way. I originally wanted to have a fashion blog, but I was nervous about posting outfits, that I decided to stick to beauty and lifestyle which is what I'm doing now.

When did you become serious about starting a blog?
I don't think I've ever been 'serious' about my blog, I do think my blog isn't something that I don't care about, I love my blog a lot. I suppose I tried to put a lot of effort over the Summer to post every day and I guess that's being serious about my blog, but I do feel that I want to commit and I do feel guilty when I don't post, so does that make me serious? I'm always playing around with what I want to post and I like using my canon camera to take pictures, I'm not looking to buy a professional lense for my blog just yet. There are days where I'll spend hours taking pictures or filming, then having to edit and write, it does take a lot of time, but I enjoy it, so it's something I love.

What was your first post?

My first post was a wishlist (here), I haven't deleted any blog posts that I've done in the past, so you can flick through them in my archive tab on my page. I also love flicking through them and looking to see if I've changed much.

What has been your biggest challenge about blogging?

Finding the positive in constructive criticism. Some people can be very harsh and I've experienced it a lot on my youtube, whether it be on my clothes, hair, face or general manner. I find it hard not to fight back and reply, but I know the best thing to do is ignore it. I don't think people really know how hurtful those comments can be and how difficult it is to just dismiss it or look at the positives from it. I also find it hard to find inspiration at times, even when looking at blog to blog, or using product to product.

Where do you see your blog in one year?

Honestly, I have no idea. If I put enough dedication and effort in to it, then my blog could do well to the point where I'm happy with it and the posts will be flowing. I don't feel as if I'm going to be deleting it any time soon, but who knows!

What is the most rewarding thing to you about blogging?
The most rewarding things are meeting some of the ladies or lads on here who are very supportive and not catty which is lovely. The overall community on here is amazing. I also think comments from strangers who make lovely comments on blog posts or about the overall blog is really rewarding, just know that I've interested someone for them to take the time to comment. Also, in my real life getting support from friends and family is really nice, as I didn't like talking about it that much before. From blogging, I have also learnt so much more about skincare, makeup and fashion which causes some people to ask me for some help, which is just so weird but good as well.

What is the most discouraging thing that happens to you?
I don't think anything distresses me that much. Coming over from Dailybooth and vYou, I was prepared for what may come. Dailybooth was very catty and bullying was constant on there which was just awful. I am fully aware that there will be people who will spend so much time looking over at pictures and they will comment.

What's your lasting inspiration or motivation?

I find a lot of my inspiration from the ladies that I read on bloglovin, or things such as pinterest or tumblr. I also get some ideas from just my own back and thinking 'ooh, I'd like to review that and share my thoughts'. Looking through magazines keeps me motivated and inspired as well, I have a large collection of magazines, that always serves me when I'm in need. I have a notebook where I jot down all my ideas, whether I get it whilst people watching in London, drinking a latte in Starbucks or just daydreaming on the tube..
