Quote Tuesday | 06

The past two weeks have been very stressful, in case you didn't know, I am applying to various universities to do a BA in Fashion Marketing. With a couple of interviews coming up, one being this week, I had to prepare a portfolio. Even when I hadn't researched what I needed to do for it, I was panicking at the thought of what I was going to put in it and how I was going to structure. I googled and researched and it seemed liked most people were like me, in the sense that they had no idea what to do and there were no answers. When I sat down and stared at my laptop, my mind went blank. I was thinking that there was no way I could do a 20-30 page portfolio, I hadn't done anything significant or important in my life to put in it, I had no idea what a portfolio looked like, how is it supposed to be - all of those things were swimming through my mind.

Fast forward to Sunday and I had a 23 page portfolio on a USB stick, ready to print! I couldn't believe I had managed to actually do it and I was really proud of what I'd created. As Rupert and I were on the way to Rymans to get it printed I kept saying to him "I haven't done this in it", "Do you think it's good enough", "What if other people have better portfolio's?", "What if I've done it completely wrong"! He told me to calm down and pull myself together. That there was always going to be people who are better than me, but there will be people who aren't better than me and that my work will be mine. That my work was good. I was jittery and nervous and all I wanted was to get my portfolio printed. Ryman's were going to charge me £60 - not what it said on the website, drove to Staples and it closed as we were pulling up! I had a breakdown, I had worked so hard and it seemed like there were constant hurdles getting in the way. Luckily, I figured out how I could get it printed for much cheaper and will get it done on Wednesday! When I saw this quote, it made me look back at the whole ordeal; I had managed to overcome the stress, I had actually created a 23 paged portfolio, I had worked out how to get it printed and it made me realise that I can do it. I can overcome anything that gets in my way and you can too.

I'll let you know how the interview goes!
